Where to find the best coffee in Berawa

Berawa is the beating heart of Canggu's café scene — a stretch of Jl. Batu Mejan and the lanes around it where surfers, digital nomads and coffee obsessives all cross paths before 9 AM. If you only have a few mornings here, this is where to spend them.

The Berawa morning ritual

Mornings in Berawa move to a rhythm: a dawn surf or run, then coffee, then the day. The best spots are busy by 7 AM and quiet by mid-afternoon, which is exactly why the early hour is worth setting an alarm for. The light is soft, the bakes are fresh, and you'll get a seat at the bar.

What to look for

  • An early open. The serious places are pouring by 6 AM for the pre-work and pre-surf crowd.
  • Grab-and-go done well. Berawa runs on takeaway cups — good ones don't compromise the coffee to move faster.
  • A proper pastry case. Coffee and a croissant is the local breakfast; the croissant should be laminated, not just baked.
  • Beans to take home. The best bars sell their roast so you can keep the ritual going.

Parking and getting around

Berawa is easiest by scooter. Most cafés have scooter or street parking nearby, and traffic on Jl. Batu Mejan is calmest early. If you're walking from a villa, the whole strip is comfortably close.

Our corner of Berawa

The Goat Father sits at the front of The Avocado Factory on Jl. Batu Mejan — a humble coffee corner with a serious bar behind it. Open daily 6 AM–5 PM, single-origin beans and our own blends, and the almond flat white that keeps Berawa coming back. Read our wider Canggu specialty guide for what to order.
